Leaving Bangkok behind, heading out on my adventure to Peru :)
Landed in Lima, Peru, after 33 hours or so on the road. I crashed the immigration computer system (or there was just a coincidence in timings :) Taxi ride trough Lima with a driver that only spoke spanish, but he was a nice guy, teaching me some spanish words on the road. After a shower and some catchup with Martin, we headed out in Miraflores for some dinner. Had Guinea pig, two “feet”. Tasted salty, but good :) There was some sort of big group on the restaurant, and they played guitar and sang loudly.
First morning in Peru, tired, but happy :) Had a great sandwich nearby, walked along the beach front for some time, had some loom saltado for lunch
Inka cola :)
In the evening we went to a walking street with a great view point at the end were we had dinner
Breakfast at the same place :) Afterwards I walked quite far to join Martin me his coworkers for lunch, which they have at the same place every day it seems. I visited the office after lunch, and on the way out of the office I got "exchange scammed" and ended up with a fake 100 soles bill :( My sunburn got even worse, forcing me to pick up a hat on the way home. People laughed at me on the way home, but oh well :) In the afternoon we had a sandwich, and got me a SIM card. Martin then cooked dinner at home on a relaxing night :)
Another day in Lima. Was badly sunburned, so took it easy indoors. Even forgot to get lunch! In the evening I had dinner with Martin and his colleague Bjørnar at Amaz, which was great jungle inspired food. Afterwards Martin and I lost some money at a blackjack table :)
Another relaxing, “hiding from the sun” day in Lima :) In the evening Martin and I went for vegetarian food and then onwards to a Fountain Park.
Amazeballs dinner at a burger joint here in Lima. Easily high up into the top of burgers I have ever had! I could have eaten nothing but that bacon for ever. Later in the evening we headed to barranco for some Halloween party extravaganza, without costumes, but with lots of fun. From learning salsa from a Venezuelan family on holidays to falling on the dance floor at el dragon. Fell asleep around 5am, exhausted but very happy ;)
Headed for nazca in the afternoon with a 7 hour bus ride. Not much else happened today :)
“The Whale” of the Nasca lines. We took a fly over on a small plane, which gave us great views of a lot of the figures, and the landscape in general
Sunset over Huacachina, an oasis in the Peruvian desert. Climbing sand dunes is hard work!
Huacachina at dusk. A beautiful little oasis in outside of Ica, Peru. In the end it turned out to be quite the party place, with loud music long into the night, but during the day it was quite peaceful :)
Sand buggy ride in the desert. He drove like a maniac :) then in the middle of the desert we stopped for sand boarding, which is a bit like snow boarding and then again nothing like it :)
Sunset over the beach in Paracas. The afternoon has been mostly chill, after we rode the bus from Ica to Pisco and then a taxi on to Paracas.
Two days in Cusco feeling exhausted. Walked around a bit, taking in the city. The altitude is really getting hard. Tonight there was some sort of gathering at the city square. When I got there there was someone singing quite beautifully, but then it turned into some woman shouting angrily. I have eaten some amazing food here so far. The picture is of alpaca tenderloin
The end of my vacation did not go at all as planned. As I got to cusco, I was exhausted for two days, which is quite common due to the high altitude. However at the end if day two I got a sore throat, runny nose and a fever. I tried to stay in bed to get better in time for my inca trail departure, but no dice :( I then tried resting two more days and then take a train up towards Machu pichu to at least see that, but still no dice. In the end I ended up changing my flight back to Lima to two days earlier, and spent two more days relaxing there before my flight back to bangkok. Right now I am waiting at the gate in Amsterdam ;) All in all it was a great trip, even with the amputated ending. I guess it just means I have to go back another time :)
